<p>Education Coordinator III</p>
<p>Location: Milton, MA</p>

<p>The Blue Hills Trailside Museum is seeking an energetic and engaging Education Coordinator III to manage, coordinate, prepare and market an array of education programs for youth, families, and adults.</p>

<p>Manage and oversee program development, implementation, and evaluation of all educational programs including weekend programs, school programs, group programs, workshops, scout programs, public programs, special events and summer camp. Develop and manage education department budget and supervise teaching staff and volunteers. Coordinate effective marketing strategies, promotional materials, community outreach, and publicity for all programs and events. Develop and implement a vision for expanded educational programs to reach a broad and diverse audience. Collaborate with DCR in development of programs in support of Mass Audubon and DCR organizational missions. Strengthen existing partnerships with local schools and create new ones through networking and cooperative projects. Plan and teach up to twenty percent of educational programs. Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.</p>

<p>Qualifications: Bachelor‘s degree in biological or earth science, environmental studies, nature interpretation, or education or equivalent, and a minimum of five years experience in environmental education/interpretive programming; or Master’s degree in biological or earth science, environmental studies, nature interpretation, or education or equivalent, and a minimum of 3 years experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires 4 years of prior supervisory experience of staff/ volunteers and 4 years of prior experience in budget development and management, as well as revenue forecasting and financial recordkeeping. This position requires a valid driver‘s license, clean driving record and successful completion of CORI and SORI. Applicants must possess strong communication, organizational, and natural history skills; have experience in environmental education curriculum development and methods; be able to manage multiple tasks concurrently; and adjust to seasonal changes in workload. Experience using captive wildlife in educational programs a plus but not required.</p>

<p style="margin:0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal><font size=3><font face=Calibri><b style="">Youth Spotlight Goes Green!:</b> <span style=""> </span>As part of this summer’s Boston R.O.C.K.S!! Goes Green, September’s Youth Spotlight is recognizing four young Boston leaders who are leading the way through their actions to REDUCE, REUSE, and RECYCLE!</font></font></p>
<p style="margin:0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face=Calibri> </font></p>
<p style="margin:0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal><font size=3><font face=Calibri><b style="">Joseph O’Neal</b> worked with <b style="">The Franklin Park Coalition</b> this past summer and set the standard for work ethic, endurance, and positive attitude on the job, which is not an easy task when working in 100 degree heat. As a member of the Franklin Park Coalition Youth Crew, Joe pulled and cut plants, dug ditches and maintained trails. He also assisted in outreach efforts to get the community involved. Joseph has been a great asset in keeping Franklin Park a safe and healthy resource for the citizens of Boston. Joe will be a senior at West Roxbury High.</font></font></p>
<p style="margin:0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face=Calibri> </font></p>
<p style="margin:0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face=Calibri>Jamaica Plain resident, <b style="">Rebecca Park</b>, fights the green fight! She has represented the youth of Boston on the Mayor's Climate Action Leadership Committee and has served as an active member of <b style="">Boston Latin School’s Youth Climate Action Network (Youth CAN)</b>. She has even presented some of the work that Youth CAN has done to former Vice President Al Gore. Rebecca is an active advocate for the reduction of carbon footprints and encourages her school to serve as a model through the development of rooftop gardens and solar installations. You may have seen Rebecca at a Youth CAN summit. She is dedicated to a greener Boston. Rebecca will be junior at Boston Latin School.</font></p>
<p style="margin:0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face=Calibri> </font></p>
<p style="margin:0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal><font size=3><font face=Calibri><b style="">Larissa Sloan</b> is part of <b style="">Alternatives for Community and Environment (ACE), a Roxbury Environmental Empowerment Project (REEP)</b> youth program. While there, she designed and piloted a survey and collected over 2000 responses. She also helped develop the case for transit Youth Pass in Massachusetts, which she brought to the national level by attending the Social Forum in Detroit. At the</font></font></p>
<p style="margin:0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face=Calibri>Social Forum, she co-facilitated workshops and presentations. She strongly believes in the need for affordable passes for young people and will continue to advocate for that. Larissa is a self-motivated leader, who is making a positive difference. Larissa will be a senior at City on a Hill.</font></p>
<p style="margin:0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face=Calibri> </font></p>
<p style="margin:0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal><font size=3><font face=Calibri><b style="">Isaiah Willis</b> worked at the <b style="">New England Aquarium</b> this summer where he was a team player who went above and beyond the call of duty. Isaiah was always working. He pushed carts of squid boxes, recruited other teens to help sort batteries and papers for recycling, fed the animals, and helped out with office work. Isaiah will be a senior in the fall at Trinity Catholic. He hopes to continue to learn more about ocean conservations and looks forward to staying connected with the New England Aquarium.</font></font></p>

Eligible programs will engage youth in service-learning, an effective teaching and learning strategy that promotes student learning, academic achievement, workplace readiness, and healthy communities.  State Farm Good Neighbor Service-Learning Grants encourage semester-long projects (following YSA's Semester of Service framework) that launch on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service (January 17, 2011) and culminate on Global Youth Service Day (April 15-17, 2011). Target will award 5,000 grants of $700 each to schools for the upcoming school year. Teachers can use a grant to fund a school field trip that connects their curriculum to out-of-school experiences. Education professionals who are at least 18 years old and employed by an accredited K-12 public, private or charter school in the United States that maintains a 501(c)(3) or 509(a)(1) tax-exempt status are eligible to apply. Educators, teachers, principals, paraprofessionals or classified staff of these institutions must be willing to plan and execute a field trip that will provide a demonstrable learning experience for students. <div align=left>State Farm Youth Advisory Board is seeking Board Members to serve through 2011. The State Farm Youth Advisory Board is comprised of 30 young adults ages 17-20 from communities across the country and Canada. The Board's mission is to oversee a $5 million signature service-learning initiative to address pressing issues that have a direct impact on communities. Youth Advisory Board members are responsible for identifying these issues, overseeing the site selections and grant making process, providing technical assistance to the site grantees, and assisting with communication and outreach.
